March 29, 1932 - June 7, 2016
Charles Leo “Sam” Plunkett, age 84, passed from the hands of his family into the loving Arms of his heavenly Father on June 7, 2016. His love for God and his family will be his legacy. Family Visitation will be Sunday, June 12, at 1 P.M. at Calvary Baptist Church in Ruston followed by his Memorial Service at 2 P.M. under the direction of Owens Funeral Home. Mr. Darryl Newsom will officiate.
Mr. Plunkett was born in Atlanta, LA. There he met and married the love of his life, Blondell Lovell Plunkett. He was a member of the Ruston community for over 60 years. As a dedicated employee of Southwest Gas and Kerr McGee in Dubach for over 40 years, he was known for his strong work ethic and integrity.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas Benson Plunkett Sr. and Floda Mae Plunkett; a sister, Margie DeLoach; and a brother, Jack Plunkett. Along with his wife of 65 years, Blondell Plunkett, he is survived by a daughter, Debbie Williams and husband, Jim of Tulsa, OK; a son, Ronnie Plunkett and wife, Kathy of Ruston; brother, Thomas Plunkett of New Orleans; Billy Plunkett and wife, Peggy of Nachitoches; sister, Betty Hicks of McKinney, TX; grandchildren, Scott Williams and wife, Tammy of Bixby, OK; Chad Plunkett of Ruston; Chris Williams and wife, Hadley of Fayetteville, AR; Dusty Plunkett of Ruston; Andy Plunkett and wife, Sarah of Bossier City; Danny Plunkett and wife, Kaitlyn of Haughton; great-grandchildren, McKenzie Plunkett, Olivia Plunkett, Chandler Plunkett, Benjamin Plunkett, Wren Plunkett, Lydia Plunkett, Korbyn Plunkett, Callie Williams, Carsyn Williams, J.R. Williams, Matthew Williams, Hannah Williams, and Luke Williams; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the physicians and staff at Glenwood Medical Center and the staff at Alpine Senior Care Center for the gracious care provided to Mr. Plunkett and his family during his final days. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church – Missions Fund, 5200 US Hwy. 167, Ruston, LA, 71270.
