Funeral services for our beloved father and husband, Richard Edwin Abel, age 70 of Ruston, will be held at 2:00 PM at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ruston Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Officiating the service will be Dr Michael Hawley. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.


Richard was very well known in our community as a Preacher and teacher, he was an Eagle Scout as well as a scout master. He was a DJ for KPCH "the Peach", he loved wood working, fishing, golfing, & just hanging with his wife & kids at Lake Claiborne. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Joseph Abel, also, his son Joseph Holland Abel.



Richard is survived by his wife of 50 years: Doris Abel; by his brothers: Joseph Abel and wife Dottie, Douglas Abel and wife Kathy and Glen Wiley Abel and wife Anne; by his children: Michael Abel, Richard "Richie" Abel, Shannon Abel, & daughter- in-law: Kim Poe Abel; grandchildren: Dusty Abel and wife Jen, Ryan Abel, Harley Price, Cody Abel, Jacob Abel, Karla Poe, Haley Poe and Abby Poe; great grandson: Bentley Abel and numerous nieces and nephews.


Pallbearers will be Jason Hogg, Randy Risk, Ralph McVay, Joel Johnson, Jerry Nugent and Jared Bell. Honorary Pallbearers are JJ Stapleton and Britt Russell.
