Funeral services for Donald Eugene Munsey Jr., 62, of West Monroe will be held at 12:15pm, Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Grace Episcopal Church in Monroe. The family will receive guests from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe. Don was born March 4, 1951 in Norfolk, Va. He passed August 28, 2013 in Bossier City LA. He was preceded in death by his father Donald Eugene Munsey Sr. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marsha; son Ryan and daughter-in-law Alex; granddaughter Abigail; mother, Jane Alice; and sisters, Ivy Lyn and Melody. Don was a devoted husband, father, teacher, and volunteer. In 1973 Don graduated from Virginia Tech; first in his class from the School of Forestry and Wildlife. He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force and served as a C130 navigator. He received his Masters degree in Logistics and Systems Analysis from the Air force Institute of Technology. He achieved the rank of Major before leaving the Air Force to pursue his PHD. He was an Eagle Scout, and continued to volunteer as an adult scout leader his entire life. Don also volunteered with the Girl Scout Council, Black Bayou Wildlife Refuge, and Project Learning Tree. Don taught mathematics at Carroll High School, and has been an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Delta Community College since 2002. He was loved and respected by his students. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Louisiana Purchase Counsel, Boy Scouts of America, in Don's name. Don loved all living thing, especially trees, dogs, and kids. He will be sorely missed and eternally loved by his family and friends.
