BENTON, LA - Funeral services for Clyde L. Meyer, 61, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Faith Chapel, First Baptist Bossier. Officiating will be Rev. Kenny Joyner, associate pastor at First Bossier, assisted by Rev. W.D. "Step" Martin and Shreveport Fire Chief Craig Mulford. Interment will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery, Bossier City, LA with military honors. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City.Clyde was born December 29, 1950 in Lubbock, TX and went to be with Jesus on July 26, 2012 in Houston, TX, after a courageous six year battle with Metastatic Melanoma. He was a retired Fire Captain from the Shreveport Fire Department and also served in the U.S. Army Reserves. A member of First Baptist Bossier, he served with Hope Ministry and was a member of the R.O.M.E.O. Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out.). He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and friend. Clyde was always helping others, especially while fighting his own health battle. Even during his worst days, Clyde never complained and always showed kindness to others. He was a true inspiration to everyone around him. Clyde's legacy will live on through his children and grandchildren for many years to come. His father, Jimmie D. Meyer and father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Partain preceded Clyde in death.He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 42 years, Barbara Partain Meyer of Benton, LA; mother, Nancy Meyer of Stonewall, LA; son, Clay Meyer and wife Kelly of Bossier City, LA; daughters, Christi Meyer Ganey and husband Rick of Bossier City, LA, Karen Meyer Allen and husband Mark of Benton, LA; brother, Larry "Skip" Meyer and wife Renee of Grand Cane, LA and sister, Darlene Meyer of Shreveport, LA. He was known as "Pawpaw" to the seven apples of his eye, grandchildren, Alex, Mallory, and Morgan Ganey, Drew and Maddie Allen, Bailey and BoDixie Meyer and is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.Honoring Clyde as pallbearers will be District Chief Barry Lewis, District Chief Mike Echols, Assistant Chief Ronnie Jordan, District Chief Benny Fredieu, District Chief Wayne Smith and District Chief Herbert Grubbs. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the R.O.M.E.O. Club.The family suggests memorials to the Melanoma Oncology Department at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, TX or to Hope Ministries at First Baptist Bossier.
