He enlisted on April 28, 1863, at Rapides Parish, Louisiana, as a conscript. The Company Muster Roll for May 1863 indicated he deserted on May 6 in New Iberia, Louisiana; however, his name appeared on roll with Company A, Consolidated Crescent Regiment Louisiana Infantry. His name appeared on Roll of Prisoners of War upon the Army's surrender in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 26, 1865. He was paroled in Alexandria on June 20, 1865.

On December 5, 1898, he filed a Soldier's Application for Pension. The date of approval was not known, but he did receive an allowance of $4.25/month. On October 5, 1904, his widow, Mary Ann Anderson Wilson, filed a Widow's Application For Pension. The application listed George H Wilson's death as May 20, 1899. She refiled the application on December 8, 1909. The second application was approved and she was provided an allowance of $3.30/month.
