He enlisted on November 4, 1861, at Bells Depot, Tennessee. On May 12, 1865, following the surrender of the Confederate States Army, he signed a parole document certifying he would not take up arms against the United States of America and would comply with the laws of the land where he resides. Upon signing the document he listed his rank as Captain.
