Services to celebrate the life of Elizabeth Hearn Thomas will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2015 in the chapel of Osborn Funeral Home, 3631 Southern Avenue, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be her nephew, Rev. Timothy Lynn Brown of East Heights Baptist Church in Tupelo, Mississippi. Burial will follow in Forest Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Thomas passed away March 14, 2015 in Shreveport, LA following a lengthy illness.

Visitation will be held at Osborn Funeral Home on Monday, March 17, 2015 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

Elizabeth was born April 16, 1925 to John Wesley and Alline Berry Hearn in Sarepta, LA. She was the second of eight children and in addition to her parents is preceded in death by sisters, Ouida Hearn, Peggy Ann Lee, Dorothy “Dot” Brown; brother, William Eugene “Brother” Hearn, sister-in-law, Juanita Hearn; and brother-in-law, Howard Lee.

Elizabeth moved to Shreveport after graduating from Sarepta High. She married her husband and soul mate, Houston Thomas, on May 27, 1947 and they were married for 56 years. They doted on their only child, Steven Randal, and only grandchild, Jennifer. Elizabeth was employed as a bookkeeper at the Caddo-Bossier Vo-Tech School and later retired after many years from Northwestern State University College of Nursing. Mr. Thomas was a retired Captain of the Shreveport Fire Department. Prior to his death on February 25, 2004, they enjoyed retirement by traveling, gardening and tending to the home and property they so loved. Their retirement was also filled with babysitting their two great-grandchildren, Jake and Jesse Hargett, the great love of their lives.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her son, Steven Randal Thomas and wife, Nelda; granddaughter, Dr. Jennifer Prime and husband, Daniel Prime; great-grandsons, Jake and Jesse Hargett all of Shreveport. She is also survived by sisters, Sandra Hanson and husband, Merlin of Sarepta, LA; brothers, John Wesley Hearn, Jr. of Humble, TX, Donald Wayne Hearn and wife, Sue of Dallas, TX; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hearn; brother-in-law, Ben Junior Brown; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by a very special aunt, Lillian Berry Martin.

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jake and Jesse Hargett, and Rodney Brown, Mike Brown, Merlin Hanson, William “Hap” Lee, Lee Stanley, and Larry Umphries.
