Kilpatrick Funeral Home, Monroe, LA. Funeral services for Henry A. Biedenharn, Jr. will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, March 26, 2010, at Grace Episcopal Church, 1400 N 4th St. in Monroe, LA. with Father Gregg Riley officiating. Visitation will be at 11:00 AM in Kilbourne Hall preceding the services. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery on South Grand Street under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Mr. Biedenharn was born October 5, 1919, in Monroe, LA and passed away March 23, 2010, in Monroe. As a lifelong resident of Monroe he was active in many civic endeavors including active participation in establishment of the Monroe-West Monroe Jaycees and the Northeast Louisiana State College (ULM) Boosters Club. He served as a regional director of the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Kiwanis Club, a charter member and president of Bayou DeSiard Country Club, and a charter member of the Public Affairs Research of Louisiana. He was also past president of the Louisiana Soft Drink Association. Mr. Biedenharn served his country in World War II as a flight instructor for the Navy. He attended Neville High School, Culver Military Academy and the University of Virginia. While at Neville he would take his shotgun to school, store it in his locker and after class hunt rabbits in the fields around the school. His grandfather, Joseph A Biedenharn, the first bottler of Coca Cola, appointed him the President of Ouachita Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Inc. after the untimely death of Joe's son, Malcolm Biedenharn, the then president. He served as CEO and Chairman of the Board of that company as well as Biedenharn Realty Co., Inc., Harn Corporation and Biedco Corporation. He served on the Board of Directors of Ouachita National Bank, Premier Bank, Bank One and the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Foundation. His parents, Henry A Biedenharn, Sr. and Bessie Scott Biedenharn as well as his sister, Elizabeth B. Cutler, preceded him in death. His wife and best friend of 70 years, Doll Hudson Biedenharn, with whom he traveled the country many times over in search of a good fishing hole, survives him. He is also survived by his children, Henry A. Biedenharn, III and wife, Kathy, Jody B. Johnston and husband, Bishop, Joseph A. Biedenharn II and wife, Jamie, and Frederick Murray Biedenharn and wife, Kathy. His grandchildren, Keith H. Biedenharn, Rebecca B. Cressy, Aron B. Coates, Elizabeth J. Guerriero, Doll J. Vines, Kathy J. Patrick, Jodi J. Lyle, James H. Biedenharn, Joseph A. Biedenharn III, Jamie B. Widener, Frederick M. Biedenharn, Jr., M. Hudson Biedenharn and step-grandson, Tony Pedigo, also survive him, as well as 20 great-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild. Nephew Haydn H. Cutler, Jr. and niece Diana Cutler Andrus also survive him. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Keith Biedenharn, James Biedenharn, Joe Biedenharn, Fred Biedenharn, and Hudson Biedenharn, and Mathew Lyle. Honorary pallbearers will be Louis P. Milner, Jack P. Mabray, B. Gerald Iverson and John B. Fudickar, Jr. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to his long time physicians and friends, Dr. Emile Barrow and Dr. David Raines, their caring staff and nurses, as well as the staff and nurses at St. Francis Hospital and the girls at Arons Pharmacy. Finally, a very special thanks to his beloved granddaughter Doll Vines, "Dr. Dool No.2", for her immediate, constant and compassionate care giving provided not only during Henry's last illness but also throughout his later years. She was always there. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
