Obituary:

BRIDGE CITY -- Robert Walter Platt, Sr., 77, of 475 Jones, Bridge City, died Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. in Doctor's hospital in Groves. His body will be at Claybar funeral home today until 10 p.m. when it will be sent to Columbia, La., for services and burial. Mr. Platt was a native of Hoods Mill, La., and had lived in Orange county 25 years. He was a retired carpenter and former employee of Bridge City schools and Bridge City state bank. He was a member of Second Baptist church here and of the Masonic lodge in Columbia, La., and was active in the Gospel Singers of America. he was a Navy veteran of World War I. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Essie Platt; four sons, R. W. Platt, Jr., and William Platt, both of Fort Smith, Ark., Lloyd Platt of Bridge City and James Platt of Lake Charles; five daughters, Mrs. Weimer McCrosky and Mrs. Widmer Reagan, both of Bridge City, Mrs. Virginia Murphy of Hebert, La., Mrs. Marie Mitchell of Evansville, Ind., and Mrs. Irene Stewart of Sulphur; two stepsons, James Estridge of South Carolina and Huey Pinder of Maine; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Susie Westcott of Houston; two brothers, Gilbert Platt of Columbia, La., and Oliver Platt of Monroe, La.; one sister, Mrs. Mamie McCarty of Pennsylvania; 22 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
