Harry Leon Brinkley - MINDEN, LA - Visitation for Harry Leon Brinkley will be Friday, January 10, 2014 from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM in the parlor at First Baptist Church, Minden, Louisiana (301 Pennsylvania Ave, Minden, LA 71055). A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 10:30 AM in the Chapel of First Baptist, Minden with Brother Crider officiating. Interment will be at Cotton Valley Cemetery in Cotton Valley, LA. Due to expected inclement weather, there will be no graveside service.Harry Leon Brinkley was born January 15, 1923 to Leonard L. and Amee Brinkley in Sailes, LA. Suggie, as he was known to all, peacefully went to be with the Lord on January 1, 2014. Welcoming him to heaven are his father and mother Leonard and Amee Brinkley, brother Parham Brinkley, brother David Brinkley and a whole host of other family members and longtime friends. Leon is survived by the love of his life for 67 years Winifred B. Brinkley of Carrollton, TX, daughters Vickie N. Brinkley, Donna B. Durrant and husband Mike Durrant all of Carrollton, TX, grandchildren Jocelyn and husband Kevin Taylor and Michael and wife Kimberly Durrant, Houston, TX, Rachel Bailey and husband Matthew Bailey, Wichita Falls, TX and two great-grandchildren Graham Leon Taylor and Carsyn N. Bailey, brother Richard Lamar Brinkley and wife Clariene, Waco, TX, nieces Diane de Moville, and husband Brent, Connie Woertendyke and husband Randy, nephew Michael Brinkley, wife Karen and great niece Amee Brinkley, nephew Andy Brinkley and Mark Brinkley, brother in law and sister in law Dan and Billie Krausse, niece Jenny Inge, nephews Petyon and Jana Inge, Bob and Linda Inge, Andy Inge and many other family members and wonderful friends.In 1941 Leon enlisted in the US Army, serving 5 plus years in England, Austria and Germany under Gen. George Patton. When Leon and Winnie married in 1946 he went to work for CVOC-Marathon, Cotton Valley and retired after 38 years. Leon was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Cotton Valley, LA for 40 years, serving as a deacon and church treasurer most of those years. He was very community minded and participated many years in civic and school activities. After moving to Minden, LA, he became a member of First Baptist church Minden for the past 25 years.Suggie was known as a man of great integrity. He loved God, Country and Family and always put others first. He will be greatly missed, never forgotten.
