She was a graduate of Cotton Valley High School and Louisiana Tech University, where she earned a Bachelors and a Masters Degree in education.

Wanda had many passions. She loved God, her family, and friends and perhaps most importantly her school children. She taught 2nd and 4th grades in Springhill, LA for 54 years. She always asked for the most difficult children in the class because she was convinced that she could “love” them into better behavior. She taught hundreds of children to believe in themselves, to strive for their best, to dance the “Virginia Reel” and to love Where the Red Fern Grows. Wanda Stinson was a life changer.

“Mam,” as she lovingly known by her granddaughters was passionate about them. She embraced her role as grandmother with pride. She spent her last day on this earth with her girls doing all the things she loved most… visiting, telling stories, treating them to Icees and sour straws and encouraging them. Wanda Stinson was a life changer.

Wanda was passionate about her beloved husband, Buddy. They were an incredible “team” for 65 years. They met when she was 15 years old and she knew she had found her soulmate.

She was passionate about motherhood. She believed it to be the most important job in the world. She never stopped encouraging, believing or supporting her daughter. Wanda Stinson was a life changer.

She was preceeded in death by her parents her brother Harold W. Johnson and her sister Joan Leslie Johnson. Left to cherish beautiful memories of Wanda is her beloved husband of 58 years, Rufus Benjamin “Buddy” Stinson, daughter Waynette S. Ballengee of Shreveport and granddaughters Jordan Elizabeth Sandefur of Houston, Texas and Morgan Stinson Ballengee of Shreveport.
