August 1841 twelve people were baptized in Bayou D'Arbonne, and several Baptist churches were organized in the early 1840's. The 1860 census showed twenty-four churches in Union Parish accommodating 9,900 people: Eleven Baptist, seven Roman Catholic, five Methodist, and one Episcopal. These figures are suspect, however. The existence of Catholic and Episcopal Churches in the parish cannot be documented by church and court records.

From the beginning the Baptists were hostile toward the Methodists, and although the Policy Jury donated an acre of ground for a Methodist church in 1839, it was nearly 50 years before a building was erected. During the pre-Civil War period whites and blacks worshipped together, but this came to an end during reconstruction, with blacks forming their own congregations. A map from the Assessor Office dated September 22, 1841 show that the NW/corner of the Old Cemetery (Public Cemetery was donated to the "Colored (African American) by Ordinance of Town. This ordinance was filed in the Policy Jury records.

Community Memorial Garden (AKA Farmerville City Cemetery for Blacks) consist of two (2) sections, one section behind the Jewish section and the other behind the older, larger section (NW corner).

Community Memorial Garden Cemetery was named September 12, 2016 when a cemetery board was established.
