LAFAYETTE - Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for William O. "Bill" Hammill.

Entombment will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Brother Duane Gautreau will conduct the funeral services.

William O. "Bill" Hammill, a longtime resident of Lafayette, died at his home Friday, April 22, 2011. He was born February 6, 1931, in Lincoln County, Mississippi. He is the son of Brooks Hammill and Mildred May Jackson, of Lincoln County, Mississippi and had four bothers and a sister. Bill Hammill served in Korea with the 180th Infantry, 45th division from 1951 to 1953, where he was decorated several times, including the Bronze star for valor. Upon his return to civilian life, he worked the oilfields of Louisiana and the Gulf Offshore. He was employed by Tri-State Oil Tools for 35 years, where he served as Regional Manager, and later for Baker Oil Tools.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Geraldine "Ricky" Hammill of Lafayette, LA; daughter Kathy Hammill Rodgers, husband Scott, and daughter Rachel, of Austin, TX; Susan Toner, husband Jim and children Jessica and Cole, of Waxhaw, NC; son William O. Hammill II, wife Elizabeth and children Connor and Isabella Hammill and Nicholas and Candie Fontenot, and granddaughter Alexis of Lafayette, LA; and daughter Dana Hammill, spouse Bridget Quebodeaux, and sons Jackson and Roman of Los Angeles, CA.; brother Jay Hammill and wife Florence of Hewlitt, WY; brother Grady Hammill and wife Linda of Underwood, IN; sister Peggy Matthews and husband Pat of Florence, MS.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Janice Ross, brothers Harry Hammill, Jack Hammill, and Charles Hammill.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Monday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 am until the time of service.

Pallbearers are Robert Shelton, John Lee, Jimmy Tyrone, Johnny Tyrone, Ronald Tate, and Alvin Robicheaux.

The family wishes to extend their special gratitude to Dr. William Roth, and to Dr. Glenn Mire, Judith, Donna, Nancy, and Rose, of Hospice of Acadiana.
