LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 2:00 PM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for George W Dempsey, 90, who passed away peacefully Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Reverend Louis Allen Breaux, Associate Pastor of St Benedict the Moor Church in Duson, will conduct the funeral services. Jodi Bollich, organist and soloist, will sing "Be Not Afraid", "The Wind Beneath My Wings", "Go Rest High on that Mountain" and "How Great Thou Art" for the services.

Survivors include daughter Kathy Ruth Dempsey Stanley and husband Billy. He was a native of Austin Texas and a resident of Lafayette since 1947. George studied Geology at the University of Texas until his enlistment in the National Guard and then was later called up for full active duty. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army Air Corps during WWII and was a Corporal in the 487th Air Service Group. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He retired from directional drilling, having worked in Kuwait for Gulf Oil, for one year after WWII, and then for Eastman and Directional Control, Inc here in Lafayette.

George was a passionate NASCAR fan since the mid 1960's. He loved flowers and working in his yard. He always had a "project" that he was working on up until his recent, brief illness. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Pallbearers will be Dee Stanley, David Jones, Mark Henry, Gordon Lee Hart, Michael Munro and Ricky Hulin.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmie Munro, Gladstone Constantine, A J Bernard, Bobby Valenti, Kim Foti, Ronald Colby, and Randall Colby.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 from 8:00 AM until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project,
