Broussard - Orel Dennis May, Sr of Vancleave, Mississippi - 73, died peacefully Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Regional Medical Center of Acadiana, Lafayette, Louisiana following a stroke and severe bout with pneumonia.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 2, 2015 at Louisiana Funeral Services & Crematory, 108 Hardware Road, Broussard, Louisiana beginning at 10:30 am with Pastor Jeff Ables of Crossroads Church conducting. Graveside intermittent to follow immediately at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum of Lafayette, 2300 North University, Lafayette Louisiana.
Survivors include beloved wife of 28 years, Judy May and children, Orel Dennis May, Jr of Carencro; April May of North Richland Hills, Texas; Leslie May-Popps (Daniel) of Carencro and step-children, Robin Williamson (Jim) of Eastland, Texas; Katherine Jagneaux (Jody) of Scott; Cassandra Buckner (Davey) of Denham Springs, Louisiana; brothers Floyd Tate of Texas; Don Tate of Oklahoma; Gordon May of Arizona; Rudy May of Kansas; sister Lou Hunter of Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents Clovis May and Maudie May; brother James E, Sisters Carnell, Carlene, Neta; son Jamie and step-son, Hill.
Orel was born in Corbitt, Oklahoma and resided with his daughter Leslie in Carencro for the last 2 years. He previously resided in Vancleave, Mississippi. Prior to retirement, he owned and operated a seafood distribution company. He was a loving father to not only his own children but a father figure to many other family members and friends. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed.
Pallbearers will be Delain Tate, Dale Tate, Brandon Murphy, Cody Pourcio, Landon Melancon and Rylan Melancon. Honorary pallbearers will Austin May and Sammy Barnett.
A public viewing will be held Sunday, February 1, 2015 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Louisiana Funeral Services & Crematory, 108 Hardware Road, Broussard, Louisiana.
