Leonard Gordon Gauthreaux, 83, of Addis, Louisiana passed away February 9, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Leonard was born in Plaquemine, Louisiana. He was the fifth child of Paul E and Mabel Agnes Chriss Gauthreaux of Plaquemine, Louisiana. He graduated from St John High School, where he played on the inaugural Eagle football team.
Leonard married Jocelyn Myhand in 1957, and together they raised their family in the home he built in Addis. He became a licensed electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 995 for 62 years. He always worked alongside his dear friend Kenny Barbier.
Leonard was the proud father of five children and their families – Randy and Cecile, and their children Walter, Clark, Grant, and Claire (Schoppe), and great granddaughter Genevieve; Lance “Yogi” and Leigh, and their children Ellen (Whitekiller) and Spencer; Hayley (Clouatre) and Glen, and their children Kate and Connor; Chris and Stacy, and their children Max and Clay; and Scott and Michelle, and their children Gabrielle and Emily .He is survived by his brother, Msgr L Earl Gauthreaux of New Orleans, Louisiana. He has too many nieces and nephews to name, who all loved their “Uncle Leonard.” His two life-long friends, Henry Hebert and Martin Miranda, were always there for him, as he was for them.
Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law Blanche and Ralph Comeaux; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Toby and Betty, and J A and Joan and his in-laws Kim and John Almendinger.
His family never hesitated to call their dad when something was broken because, “Daddy can fix ANYTHING!” There was nothing Leonard loved more than spending time with family and friends. He always looked forward to the Annual Addis Volunteer Fire Department Mardi Gras parade where he and Jocelyn hosted a large gathering of family of friends. He loved a good poker or Bourré game. Everyone knew not to invite him to dinner on Mondays or Wednesdays when he and his “card buddies” gathered in his card room. All who knew him would say that Leonard’s quick wit, fun-loving jabs, and big infectious smile were his endearing trademarks. All who knew and loved this man will sorely miss his genuine spirit.
The family would like to extend genuine thanks for years of comfort and caring to his doctor and friend, Pat Stagg M D.
