The Homer Guardian.

Miss Lilla May, daughter of G G and L E Gill died last Saturday evening at 2 o'clock, at the age of seventeen years and three months.
This was one of the saddest deaths that has occurred in Homer during all the past history of the town. Sad on account of the many claims and ties which bound her to this life, and because of her death being so unexpected. When the dark winged messenger conveyed his doleful tidings to her relatives and friends, there went up from the town of Homer one united and solemn acclaim, "my God, can it be true?"
It is but natural for the aged and infirm to pass away. Indeed we watch the flickering of life's lamp in them with emotions similar to those with which we look upon the mellow glow of a summer sunset. The grave in such cases loses some of its terrors but when the young, the beautiful and the pure die, we marvel like the skeptic, and were it not for our hope in the glories of a future resurrection, would impugn the motives of a seemingly unjust decree. The untimely fate of this dear young lady is indeed a sad thought. But a few days ago she moved among us, young, beautiful, modest and lovely, the pride of her devoted parents, and the joyous friend of her companions. To-day, "Death lies on her like an untimely frost upon the sweetest flower of all the land."
This young lady possessed virtues and accomplishments that are rarely located in one so young. With the precepts and examples of godly parents to guide and direct her, she professed the Christian faith at an unusual early age, so at her death she was one of the most useful and active female members of the Methodist church at this place. She as appointed organist for church and Sunday School service, when but fourteen years old. Naturally of fine musical talent and possessed of great confidence, she filled the above position with credit to herself and satisfaction to the church, up till her recent sickness that caused her death.
