He enlisted May 2, 1862 at Monroe, Louisiana. Records also show he enlisted on May 8, 1862, at Corinth, Mississippi. After enlisting he was assigned as a Teamster driving the ordnance wagon. On January 20, 1864, he re-enlisted (with his company) in Dalton, Georgia. Company Muster Roster showed he was wounded on July 28, 1864, and was in the hospital at Forsyth, Georgia. On November 1, 1864, he was detailed to drive a wagon at the General Army Headquarters.
