Jerry H. Sanders, 79, of West Monroe, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2019. He was a member of the West Monroe High School Class of 1957, where he played shooting guard on the basketball team and made the All-State team. He supported West Monroe High School football throughout his life. He graduated from University of Louisiana Monroe with a degree in history and served in the US Army Reserves.He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Anne Sanders; three daughters, Deana Sanders, Holland Sanders, and Lissy Compton; sons-in-law Mark Fannon and Brent Compton; brother Tom Sanders and sister-in-law Mary Sanders; grandchildren Pearson Compton, Phoebe Compton, Leighton Compton, Sean Fannon, and Sarah Fannon; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas A. Sanders, Sr.; mother, Medorah Head Sanders; and an infant brother.Mr. Sanders was an active builder and developer in the community. He was the owner of Parkwood Development Corporation and JHS Homes, and he was responsible for building and completing four subdivisions in Ouachita Parish. His life work was building homes and communities for the families of Ouachita Parish.An active member of the community, Mr. Sanders served on numerous boards including Silver Waters Girl Scouts, Glenwood Hospital, Northeast Louisiana Homebuilders, Ridgedale Academy, Highland Park Country Club, West Monroe Chamber of Commerce, Tensas District Levee Board, and the Finance Committee of First United Methodist Church.Mr. Sanders was a sports nut who supported the LSU Tigers, the University of Kentucky men basketball team, the Baylor University women basketball team, and local high school teams. He also loved boxing, women tennis, and golf.He was an avid movie buff who loved spendingSaturday nightsat the movies and loved the Oscar season. He never lost his love for a bag of popcorn.His funeral arrangements are as follows:Visitationwill be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Sunday, January 13, 2019at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe. Burial will beMonday, January 14, 2019at Hasley Cemetery on Arkansas Roadat 9 A.M. The service will followat 10:30 A.M.at First United Methodist Church in West Monroe.Honorary pallbearers are Cory Hart, Stanley Dupuy, Billy Golson, Larry Saltzman, Ron Woods, Mabus Walters, and Paul Johnston.Memorial Donations in memory of Jerry Sanders may be made to the renovations of the Prayer Garden at First United Methodists Church,1411 Glenwood Drive, West Monroe, LA 71291
