He enlisted July 7, 1861 at Camp Moore, Louisiana. His name appeared on a list of Confederate Prisoners paroled at Winchester, Virginia in June 1862. His name also appeared on a list of Non-commissioned Officers and Privates exchanged at Aiken's Landing, Virginia on August 5, 1862. The Company Muster Roll dated October 2, 1862 listed him as "left sick below Winchester probably captured." His name was listed as a Prisoner of War on board the Steamer Coatzacoaleos in 1862. However, the Company Muster Roll dated October 31, 1862 reflected his status as present. The Company Muster Roll for November-December 1863 showed he was wounded on November 7, 1863 at Rappahannock Station and was now on furlough in Alabama. His name appeared on a list in November 1863 as wounded and in the Jackson Hospital in Richmond, Virginia with a minnie ball in his right arm. He was present for duty on the January-February 1864 Company Muster Roll. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War on May 26, 1865 when his unit surrendered in New Orleans, Louisiana.
