BETTY JO MANSON CREEL, age 79 and a resident of the Sheridan community died at 2:30 AM Saturday January 30, 2010 at LSU Bogalusa Medical Center after a long period of failing health. She was owner/operator of Creel Grocery for several years. She was a member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church and the widow of Hillary Creel. She was a native of South Texas where she lived in several of the oil field communities. Upon becoming a single mother of two, she moved to Louisiana. Betty was an outgoing person who never met a stranger. She enjoyed making crafts and was especially good using a bandsaw.
Survived by: Grandchildren: Zechariah Crain of Thomas Shelby Ratley of Bogalusa Anthony David Ratley Nicholas Ratley both of Thomas Nicole Great grandchildren: Pete Crain of Thomas Santanna Ratley Sierra Ratley both of Bogalusa Colden Gage 2 sisters Margaret Shields and Opal Lee Miller both of Texas Brother in law: Prentis Creel of Bogalusa
She was also preceded in death by her parents William Henry and Irene Taylor Manson; children Sharon Creel Crain and William David Ratley; a sister Helen Mae Awalt; 2 brothers G.L. and William Henry Manson.
Her family is most grateful to her dear friends' daughter in law Dorothy Ratley, Shirley Hunt, Polly Parden, Betty Knight, Debbie Jones, and especially Alice Terrell, Gloria Haley, Billie Sue Spears, Dorothy Taylor, 2 special cousins from Texas Henri Wilber and Lee Nora Jagger; Aubrey and Jean Jones, Jean Simmons and Patsy and Harold Ritchie.
Visitation at Crain Funeral Home after 10 AM Monday until time for the funeral service at 2 PM in the funeral home chapel with Eld. Duane Ball, Eld. Doyle Ball and Eld. Clyde Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the Thomas Cemetery.
