James Robert Pierce, 85, died January 10, 2011. He was born Dec. 6, 1925, and was a member of the Union Avenue Baptist Church. He also attended the First Baptist Church for the past nine years. He retired from the G M & O Railroad in 1973. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy and also the U.S. Marines as a corpsman and a medic. He was a member of the Magic City American Legion Post 24 and a member of the Center Lodge 244 F & AM, both of Bogalusa.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Pierce; two sons, Mike (Cathy) Pierce and Greg (Beth) Pierce; one daughter, Kay (Tony) Arguelles; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Bettie Adams Pierce; his parents, George L. Pierce & Ellon Dykes Pierce; two brothers, George Pierce Jr. & Asa L. Pierce; three sisters: Ollie Lee, Annie Belle Hunley, & Ernestine Gunnell.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 11 at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. and continued on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. George Moore and Rev. Bob Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Ponemah Cemetery.
