Albert W. "Ab" Lavigne, age 91, a resident of Varnado, died Saturday, April 1 in Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Mandeville. A member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Varnado, he was a retired employee of Crown Zellerbach Corp., served 45 years as a Boy Scout and Explorer advisor and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He was also a member of the Lions Club.
He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Colby and Richard Earl Fonda of Varnado, Suzanne Lavigne of St. Petersburg, Fla., Jenny and Kenny Goodrow of Mandeville; five grandchildren, Melanie Perry, Darrin Fonda, Karen Maley, Joey Thomas and Brandy Underwood; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lavigne.
Visitation was held Monday, April 3 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home and continued Tuesday at 8 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Jon Claypool officiated, with interment following in Ponemah Cemetery.
