Austin Applewhite, age 81, a resident of Bogalusa, LA, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2012 at the LSU Medical Center in Bogalusa, LA.

He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church and retired from the Bogalusa Fire Department after 38 years.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Jennings Applewhite of Bogalusa, LA; a son, Greg Applewhite of Bogalusa, LA; a sister, Lois Tynes of Pine, LA; a brother, Louis (Diane) Applewhite of Bogalusa, LA; three granddaughters, Jodi (Don) Dauterive of Bush, LA, Mitou LeMaire (Shane Scott) of Whitesands, MS, and Mignette LeMaire (Chad) Hagan of Leesville, LA; three great-grandsons, David Dauterive, Paul Dauterive and Jennings Scott; three great-granddaughters, Marion Scott, Madeline Hagan and Saige Hagan.

He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Marion Applewhite LeMaire; his parents, Vencie and Hazel Applewhite; four sisters, Ophelia Averette, Willie Mae Jenkins, Nieta Varnado and Mieta Pigott; three brothers, Albert Applewhite, Arthur Ray Applewhite and Wayne Applewhite.

Visitation will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 1:00 P.M. in the Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Patrick Magee and Dr. Tommy Morgan to officiate and Interment to follow at Ponemah Cemetery.
