Husband of Ida Branch Martin Brooks
William E. Brooks was reportedly the owner of a grist mill located on a small branch that emptied into Bogalusa Creek. The area where he lived was known as Ben's Ford, which was later absorbed into the city of Bogalusa, Washington Parish, Louisiana.
Brooks married Ms. Ida Branch, most likely from the area of Pine and Thomas, Louisiana, and had five children by her. His daughter, Essie Lee Brooks Ellis Fauntleroy, stated that he died as a result of yellow fever, influenza, or some other disease that was common to the area.
