Strouther M Matlock was born in Mississippi. He was a son of Charles Edward Matlock and Margaret Elvira Holloway. The family moved to Louisiana in the Mott community in the early 1850's. Strouther served in the Civil War. He had 2 brothers, Hartwell Marion and John who also served. According to excerpts from a history,"Matlock - Robertson and Related Families", Strouther died near Corinth, Mississippi in 1862. This was right before the battle of Shiloh in April, possibly during preliminary fighting. Most family sources state that his body was never recovered. This marker in Boggs Cemetery was erected to his memory by the United Daughters of the Confederacy in May 1988.
