Husband of Emily Josephine "Josie" Wynn and father of Harold Hawkins, he died of tuberculosis at the age of 26. He was the oldest child of James Madison Hawkins and Agnes Finley Ann Hale. Josie was his seond cousin, the daughter of his mother's first cousin, Susan Emily Jane Carter and husband William Woodson Wynn.
