He enlisted on December 11, 1861, at Camp Moore, Louisiana. He remained present for duty throughout the war except for November 25, 1863, when he was furloughed from the hospital for 30 days. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War when the Confederate Army surrendered at Citronelle, Alabama, on May 4, 1865. He was paroled in Meridian, Mississippi, on May 13, 1865.
