He enlisted March 3, 1863 in Homer, Louisiana. On January 20, 1864, while in Dalton, Georgia, he re-enlisted with his company for the duration of the war. The Company Muster roll showed him to be on "wounded furlough" August 17, 1864 - October 16, 1864. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners Of War when his unit surrendered in Citronelle, Alabama on May 4, 1865. He was paroled in Meridian, Mississippi on May 13, 1865.
