Killed in Action in Sicily
Louis' real last name was Berthelot. Because Louis couldn’t read or write, the Army spelled his name the way he pronounced it with his Cajun accent, ‘Batlotte’. And it stuck. He was the son of Bernard and "Elda" (Barilleaux) Berthelot of Saint Martinville, Louisiana. Killed in Action in Sicily during Operation Husky when he stepped on a German S-mine, otherwise known as a Bouncing Betty.
