George SPENCER

Silver Cross Cemetery
Madison County,
Louisiana

November 16, 1866 - February 7, 1922

The people of Tallulah and other Louisiana towns, and Vicksburg, were shocked yesterday evening
to learn of the sudden death of Geo Spencer, a prominent lawyer of Tallulah, and member of the
Town Council of that city little city, yesterday afternoon, shortly after 5 o'clock.
Mr Spencer was attending a meeting of the town council, and made a motion for the council to act
upon, when, the moment he uttered the last word, and was about to take his seat, he suffered an acute
attack of heart disease and fell to the floor. He breathed his last before the friend nearest him
could reach his side.
Mr Spencer was in his 56th year, and was apparently hearty and vigorous. He was a man of most lovable
traits, magnetic, who adhered to the highest ideals of life, and was extremely popular with all who
knew him.
He was born November 16, 1866, in Catahoula parish, Louisiana, and graduated from Tulane University. He
was at one time assistant secretary of state of Louisiana, and had lived in Tallulah for many years.
He is survived by his son, Mason Spencer, who lives in Tallulah and who was associated with his father
in the practice of law, and a daughter, Mrs Carneal Goldman, wife of a prominent planter of Tensas parish.
Interment in Tallulah cemetery.
