SAN PABLO, California. Marvin Jasper Byrd, 83, a native of Bogalusa. Louisiana who lived in Richmond, California for the last 38 years, passed away August 31 in San Pablo, California.
A Pearl Harbor survivor, he was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Marines.
He retired from the University of California with 24 years service and his hobby was collecting and restoring old cars.
Family members said he was dearly loved and will be sadly missed and quoted Bible verse John 3:19, "Your heart is at rest in his presence."
He is survived by his wife, Laura of San Pablo, California; sons, Rodney Byrd of Rodeo, , California and Franklin Byrd of Pinole, , California; brothers, Lamar Byrd of Bogalusa, Melvin Byrd of Bogalusa and Alton Byrd of Bogalusa; half brothers James Byrd of McComb, Mississippi, and Billy Byrd of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; sister, Ruth Byrd of Zachary, Louisiana; grandchildren, Michelle Mendoza, Melissa Byrd, and Crystal Byrd; and a great-grandchild, Ajay Mendoza.
He was preceded in death by brother, Clifford Byrd.
Visitation will be held at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home tomorrow from noon until time of the funeral service, to be conducted from the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. Pastor Butch Byrd will conduct the funeral service.
Burial will follow the service in the McGehee Cemetery.
