Husband of Hilda Fruge Balfa
For his Cajun music, Dewey received the National Endowment for the Arts' National Heritage Fellowship, the highest honor this country can bestow on a traditional artist. He played as did his father, grandfather, & great-grandfather. He and his brothers, Will on fiddle and Harry & Rodney on guitar, formed the Balfa Brothers band recording for the Swallow & Rounder labels. Dewey was also inducted into the Cajun Musicians' Hall of Fame.
